Military Out of Our Schools – San Francisco is a coalition of community organizations working to remove the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) and all military recruiters from the San Francisco Unified School District. JROTC and the military target children as young as 14 and 15, particularly low-income working class youth and youth of color. We should be preparing all of our students for college and career, not combat.

San Franciscans should not permit an institution in our schools which discriminates against the LGBT community with its “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy. JROTC violates international law against the military recruitment of youth. The program prevents students from getting real Physical Education (PE), offering an inadequate substitute for that vital program. JROTC costs school district taxpayers one million dollars per year, money that could be better spent providing real leadership development programs.

Military Out of Our Schools – San Francisco pursues our objectives through organizing campaigns, legal action and electoral politics.

For more information on the history of the struggle against JROTC, see the No on Prop V campaign website.

JROTC is one of the best recruiting devices we could have.
